2 years ago I saw a group of middle school aged Buddhist boys in orange robes who had shaved heads and a little boy saw them and said “Look, Mom! Airbenders!” and at first they laughed but then they told him that they were Airbenders but they weren’t allowed to airbend in public and it was pretty much the greatest thing I’ve ever seen

#because seriously #what use has kirk had for no win scenarios? #how far could he have possibly gone if he considered his father’s death as a lose? #if he considered his own life and his mother’s life as losses? #and there were probably times #when his stepfather was yelling and his mother was off world and there didn’t seem to be anywhere to run to #when he might have thought of just giving it all up as a situation that couldn’t be won #but he learnt that if he kept going #if he pushed hard enough and long enough #something would eventually give #and it might not be much or give him much to work with #but it’s been a hell of a lot more use to him than the idea of sitting back and accepting your lot #jim kirk does not understand the kobayashi maru and that is the best thing in the world #my kirk feels let me show them to you
